Default Will the mesmer survive?

Ah...

After almost a year of playing a mesmer as my primary (mixed in with a bit of Ranger who had mesmer as his secondary) I may be taking the unusual step of deleting my mesmer...

I just am not finding much joy in playing him anymore...

The mass mobs of humanity that attack you in Factions (the city areas) drive me crazy and overwhelm me as a Mesmer.

Try to convince me to go one way or the other... Sepaku is being contemplated...

:-)

If you don't know the importance of a mesmer, then you don't deserve to play one. Go make an assassin ^^

Da:

It is not a matter of not understanding the importance of a mesmer... it is having fun playing one. I understand the importance of a Monk... I hate playing one.

I play a very effective domination mesmer, but never much enjoyed illusion mesmers...

While I appreciate your need to comment your arrogance blinded you to the real question posed. I have already made an assassin... and I find its role to be similar to that of a mesmer in Tyria; well at least the way I have played it.

I will proceed to attempt to find groups as a mesmer; outside the guild/friend ones anyway.

In missions the mesmer aoe skills are very limited, and I have yet to find many things to be "shatter hexable" yet I am not far in these missions so I will wait and see.

My first goal I had for factions was to beat the game and all quests that came along my way (ALL the island ones, and all the ones on the Kurzick side). I did so two nights ago. I had deleted my mesmer a few months ago as I had grown tired of it, but I regretted it ever since and this was my time to recreate. I voluntarily did all the missions except the 2 final ones and the one with the dragon (hench don't understand me screaming to kill spores...) with hench, but people were quite glad to have me on their team on those missions.

Yeah, mobs of melee characters charge straight for you in Factions - I agree with ya there. Be a Dunham then, distortion isn't only for him to use. Once the melee enemies realize they aren't hitting you, they do move on. If you aren't having fun on your mesmer noone can convince you that you are having fun... we can only suggest that you may, and probably will regret it later. Put it in the vaults for now, that's where my necro sat for about two months. Putting him through the game as well made me realize that I missed playing him too.

Whatever you do, dont delete your mesmer.

You will regret it so much!!

I contemplated on deleting my mesmer after he was 2 days long, but i decided to stick with her. And guess what? Mesmer was sooooooooooo fun to play. Why? They can do anything!!!

Maybe try to find a nonhenchman group, it might be easier

Don't delete your mesmer! Of course if you want an unbiased view you're looking in the wrong place

Honestly if you don't enjoy something, then don't force it. I made a warrior before, got to L9 and Yaks Bend, got bored and deleted it. I remade him with the same name and he's gathering dust in the same place, but I just haven't had the heart to delete him yet. I simply don't enjoy being a mindless hitter (or a monk), no matter how hard I try, yet many do, so just play what you find fun.

And a final word...if you do delete him, don't play another caster in his stead. When I returned to my necro after a long spell of mes it seemed soooo slow!

Meh, Mesmers are for PvP. You can have far greater fun with other PvE classes. You don't get that satisfactory feel when someone screams at you for Diversioning all their skills in PvE.

Heh, I agree with Dragannia, it's much for fun if you play Mesmer in PvP.

Though I do have a PvE mesmer, and while I don't use her as much as a I should, I still enjoy soloing UW (When American has favor, curse you Europe!), and I enjoy doing FoW (Domination Mesmer)

But neh, use your Mesmer for PvP. Sift through all the IWAY, and find a nice Balanced group.

Its a good feeling when you know you can 1-1 kill any build in the game excluding the boonprot...and that says alot about the boonprot.

Why couldn't you?
You mean that no Mesmer build can take down a boonprot monk? Sure they can.

hahahahaha. Mesmers can beat anything 1 v 1 if they know what proffesion they're up against...

As for boon prots:
* Slow their cast speed down and power block them...
* Empty thier energy and disable their signets...

blah blah blah.

My mes is a Me/N, and if I decide I wanna mix things up (which is rare coz I love the mes skills too much) then I go MM or degen and only use the inspiration line of the mes. The biggest draw of the mes is the fact that you can do anything, and cast it quickly. I'm even considering making another just for the hell of it I'd suggest switching to Me/N unless that's what you are already. The skills compliment each other brilliantly.

I am a Me/N except when we go out with two guild Necros... then I go Me/Mo for rebirth. To be honest I think I am going to shelf him for a while... and if I miss him I will go back... if not well... if I end up needing the space.

try throwing Spiteful Spirit around for a while. it's fun to fastcast and arcane echo. just to change things up you know....

deleting a level 20mesmer would be a move that would come back and haunt you. i deleted a level 14 ele and never thought twice about it. but the mesmer has depth that other characters can't offer.

Maybe ANet should make AI cry "WTF STOP INTERRUPTING ME NOOB" when you interrupt them.

Or something similar. That would surely make anyone's day.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of making mobs say @#$%! I would miss fast casting too much as well... I really got used to that. My mesmer's on the shelf at the moment, but that's only because my necro is being intoxicating right now. I have a ranger collecting dust that I love too - I certainly wouldn't delete any of them, no way!

Heck, I've got three mesmers on the go right now. One Tyrian, two Canthan--one of them I just created last night. I prefer domination builds, but decided to try an illusion mesmer while at the same time keeping my two domination ones, rather than changing their builds.

To the OP: I've been playing a domination Canthan mesmer from day one. I've not had any problems getting into groups, and there is *plenty* to dominate. When out with hench, the primary problem area in terms of getting rushed seems to be the city, and Jade Brotherhood mobs are particularly bad. Otherwise, your mesmer should be able to handle himself. So far, my mesmer has henched most optional quests and has grouped for most storyline quests. I haven't really tried henching the storyline ones--maybe I should.

But in any event, there is definitely a place for your mesmer in Factions PvE. You just have to accept that Jade Brotherhood mobs will pound you, and learn how to kite.
